Practices for Logistics and Supply Chain Management

This website is part of my family of webpages about supply chain and logistics practices.

The idea for creating such a webpage came to life when I had launched my logistics consulting company "KLD" in 2001 and used the page www.logistikdiagnose.de to give my company a web-presence.

The name "logistikdiagnose" (en: "logistics diagnostics") was inspired by the book "Unternehmensdiagnose" (en: "enterprise diagnostics") - see it on amazon.de - by Dr. Klaus-Peter Nührich - I had the great pleasure of working for Dr. Nührich on a project and was able to observe the application of his methodologies.

When I reflected on how he approached the project, I thought that the logistics world was still very much influenced by traditional/unquestioned principles, concluding that a more analytical approach (executing a "logistics diagnostics") can create value. Or in other words, one has to properly understand the problem before choosing the right "treatment" since introducing changes that do not tackle the real issue may be ineffective and can, in the worst case, exacerbate the situation. Hence I named my company "KLD - Krüger Logistik Diagnose".

Later I carried this conviction further by dedicating my Master's dissertation to the subject of operations due diligence. I found out that the analytical process of finding out if two logistics companies can be merged and which value could be created by merging these logistics-networks had been an underdeveloped discipline.

Another significant influence for me has been Prof. Martin Christopher's theories about modern supply chains (I had the great privilege to attend his lectures during my Master's studies at Cranfield University).

I had the privilege of learning important leadership principles from great mentors - applying effective change management plus how the logistics and supply chain world can benefit from lean- and agile-management practices complete the portfolio of key influences.

Today, it is not anymore questioned that companies need to transform rapidly. I am convinced that it all starts with diagnostics - since it determines the effectiveness of future efforts. Enjoy reading, and do not hesitate to send me your feedback/comments.
